Promoting jazz tourism in Europe and beyond

Jazz à Vienne 2016

  • Vienne, France
  • 7-10 July 2016

2016 TOUR SALES NOW CLOSED. At the northern end of the Rhone valley, Vienne combines world class jazz with stunning Roman architecture and high quality boutique vineyards for a very cultured weekend away.

Jazz à Vienne’s mainstage is the dramatic Théâtre Antique, a 7,000-seat restored outdoor Roman Theatre. Some evening programming is themed, e.g. ‘Funk’ or ‘Afrique’, and often mixes big names with related local acts. The headliners are backed up by relaxed afternoon performances in the Scènes de Cybèle courtyard, Club de Minuit late night performances in a 17th Century theatre, and if you’re still going, 1am ‘Jazz Mix’ gigs in the Spiegeltent.

Vienne, near Lyon, is easily accessible by train from the UK via the new direct Eurostar services to Lyon. Sitting on the banks of the Rhone it was a prosperous trading post for the Romans and now layer upon layer of architecture spanning 2,000 years is still being discovered, preserved and reused. The surrounding vineyards also date back to the Romans, and many now welcome interested wine lovers for tours and tastings.
